Optional analytics

I use Google Analytics 4, delivered through Google Tag Manager, to understand how visitors find this site and which work they engage with. Analytics loads only after you choose “Allow analytics”. Choosing “No thanks” leaves the website and its guide available. Until you allow analytics, or if you decline, this site sends no analytics events or cookieless measurement pings to Google.

After acceptance, Google Analytics can use first-party cookies to distinguish browsers and sessions. Reports can include page views, referral sources, campaign labels, approximate location, device information, engagement and selected actions such as download clicks, contact-link clicks, recording plays and guide usage. These reports describe activity; they do not tell me who an individual visitor is.

I do not send contact-form contents, email addresses, search text, or the text of questions and answers in the guide to Google Analytics. Guide measurements record actions such as opening the guide, sending a question and following a source link. Advertising personalisation and Google signals are disabled in this setup.

Changing your choice

Your analytics choice is stored in this browser for up to six months. You can reopen “Analytics preferences” in the footer at any time. If you withdraw consent after accepting, this site stops its analytics events, removes its Google Analytics cookies and reloads the page to unload the tracking scripts. Previously collected data is not erased by changing this browser setting.

Google Search performance

I also use Google Search Console to see aggregate information about this website in Google Search, including impressions, clicks, search queries where available, search position, countries and device categories. Search Console does not add a tracking script to this website. Its search-performance reports are independent of your analytics choice here and do not show what you do after arriving on the site.

Search Console is linked to Google Analytics so I can review search performance alongside consented website activity. This does not identify individual searchers or enable tracking of visits that declined analytics. Read about Search Console performance reports.

The guide and essential website services

The Guide to Vairavan is optional and separate from analytics consent. When you submit a question, the website sends your question, recent conversation context and the relevant page to its server. The server uses OpenRouter and a language-model provider to produce an answer. Please avoid sharing confidential or sensitive information. See OpenRouter’s privacy policy.

The site is hosted on Vercel. Hosting and security services process request information needed to serve the website and protect it from abuse, independently of optional analytics. See Vercel’s privacy policy.

Contact and external websites

Email links open your email application. If you contact me, I use the information you send to respond. Linked articles, recordings, social networks and event pages have their own privacy practices.
